The Science and Research Fund (SRF) is a sub-fund within the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)’s Ocean Stewardship Fund (OSF), which aims to help increase the number of sustainable fisheries around the world. The SRF is open to academic institutions, independent researchers and MSC certified fisheries. Projects must be applicable to fisheries that have already achieved MSC certification*, but which have conditions they must meet ahead of their next MSC assessment, or other areas they must improve, to achieve best sustainability practice. This year’s research priorities are for proposals on data to support development of effective harvest strategies and harvest control rules, as well as sustainable use of fishing bait. The deadline for applications is 23:59 on 6 January 2021.
*The MSC ecolabel (‘blue fish’ label) and certification program recognises and rewards sustainable fishing practices and is helping create a more sustainable seafood market.
