The Student Research Grants (SRG) is a sub-fund within the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)’s Ocean Stewardship Fund (OSF), which aims to help increase the number of sustainable fisheries around the world. The SRG is open to current Masters or PhD students in fisheries science worldwide. Projects must have the objective of studying some aspect of environmental improvement, performance or best practices in relation to a specific fishery and the MSC Fisheries Standard*. The fishery must be one of the following: MSC certified, in the MSC’s In-Transition to MSC (ITM) Program, a stage 4 Pathway Project fishery, or in a Comprehensive Fishery Improvement Project (FIP). Up to £5k per project is available. The deadline for applications is 23:59 on 6 January 2021.
*The MSC ecolabel (‘blue fish’ label) and certification program recognises and rewards sustainable fishing practices and is helping create a more sustainable seafood market.
