The role:

The successful candidate will manage and grow our social and emerging media campaigning and daily outreach. This person will be a member of the Communications Department and will develop and execute digital advocacy, fundraising and marketing strategy and tactics for Oceana’s overarching campaigns.

Social Media and Communications Specialist in Copenhagen:

Create social media campaigns and other digital content:

  • Lead day-to-day management of Oceana social media properties by creating content which meets our campaigns standards.
  • Create content for social media, blog, e-news and other channels as needed, including imagery and copywriting.
  • Stay current on social media best practices and propose new insights-informed strategies on a daily basis.
  • Increase online actions, sign-ups, donations, website traffic and other engagement social networks and tools
  • Run online advocacy campaigns across Europe in collaboration with campaign leaders.

Deliver general communications actions in Denmark:

  • Handle media enquiries, arrange interviews and act as local media contact person.
  • Co-organise or support briefings and events, in coordination with the rest of communications staff, draft and/or send press releases.
  • Translate and adapt materials into Danish.

More specifically the new Social Media Specialist will:

  • Develop social media strategies in coordination with the Campaign Leader to support our projects and campaigns effectively and timely manner.
  • Update our key social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with Oceana information on daily basis, calls to action, and ocean news.
  • Stay abreast of ocean news and reacts to new opportunities and unplanned calls to action and segmentation.
  • Identify opportunities to advance campaign and fundraising goals, including through messaging, calls to action and segmentation
  • Coordinate daily with the rest of communications colleagues to ensure consistent and timely messaging, as well as fully leveraging of Oceana’s website, deliverables and resources
  • Analyse data, evaluating impact, doing social listening and looking for ways to improve results and meet our goals to increase the number of followers and engagement.
  • Recommend and apply relevant social media techniques, processes and tools to improve overall results and efficiency.
  • Provide inputs to the communications calendars of Oceana in Europe and stay updated of actions developed by communications colleagues.
  • Support general communications efforts in Denmark as needed, including sending press releases, translating materials into Danish and helping out with events arrangements.
  • Update the database of Danish journalists and handle inquiries from local media.
  • Do media monitoring and contribute to the European consolidated media summary.

Candidate Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience driving social media engagement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in paid social media advertising and social media analytics.
  • Experience with software or apps for photo and video editing.
  • Pro-active, strong team player, able to work individually on a project and in a team environment.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to adapt complex information to social media requirements.
  • Self-driven attitude, ability to create a contents calendar and to develop contents without the need of ongoing inputs.
  • Journalistic approach and ability to identify trends and react to unexpected news.
  • Willingness to interact with people with different nationalities and backgrounds.
  • Ability to deliver under high pressure situations and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to effectively manage multiple projects and initiative to be productive during waiting periods.
  • Attention to detail, strong follow-through.
  • Good judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive topics.
  • Bilingual Danish/English 
  • Genuine interest in ocean conservation and knowledge of EU policy a plus.
  • Experience as a journalist a plus.
  • Eligibility to work in Denmark.
