In 2013, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine established the Gulf Research Program to enhance oil system safety and the protection of human health and the environment in the Gulf of Mexico and other U.S. outer continental shelf areas. The Program seeks to improve understanding of the region’s interconnecting human, environmental, and energy systems and fostering application of these insights to benefit communities and ecosystems of the Gulf.
The Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine seeks a Senior Program Officer as the Data Activity Director. The Data Activity Director is responsible for developing and overseeing the GRP data management program. Develops program strategy and budget, staffing needs, and ensures the data program activities align with the GRP’s strategic plan. Coordinates with data repositories to ensure adherence to GRP data management policies and protocols. To be successful in this role, candidates should have extensive experience in data management, information science, or other related field. The Data Activity Director will ensure the data program meets requirements of the GRP settlement agreement and other data policies.
Expands the data management program, establishes processes for it, and ensures that the data activities aligns with or integrates across other program areas of the GRP. Has authority to take whatever action deemed advisable or necessary, subject only to organizational and departmental policies and rules. Has supervisory responsibilities, including hiring, training, and performance management for assigned staff. Provides innovative solutions to complex problems that impact program's or project's success. Reports directly to GRP Executive Director or Synthesis Program Director
