Foundry10 is seeking a full-time social science researcher to join the marine science team. The foundry10 marine science team aims to empower local youth to take action for global ocean and climate resilience, anchor all programs and partnerships in environmental justice, investigate and invest in research that promotes a strong ocean ethic, and bridge classrooms to ocean technology and marine science professionals. To that end, this position will support youth program evaluation and applied social science research related to marine science, environmental education, STEM, and crosscutting concepts. This position starts in fall 2020.

  • Qualifications

    • Masters degree (or bachelor’s degree with 5+ years additional professional experience) in education research, behavioral sciences, social sciences, or a related field
    • Practical experience conducting applied research with children and youth, particularly experience with youth survey implementation in environmental programs
    • Strong background in qualitative and quantitative methodology
    • Knowledge of and experience with statistical software packages such as R, SPSS, or similar programs
    • Strong commitment to advancing equity and environmental justice through research, intersectional environmentalism and community partnerships
    • Ability to be a flexible and adaptable team member in a fast-paced environment
    • Willingness to work on multiple marine science and STEM projects simultaneously
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a flatter structure
    • Ability to collaborate with colleagues both on and off the marine science team to move projects through all phases of the research process, from abstract ideas to actionable results
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to start in fall 2020

Responsibilities

  • Formulating research questions & designing studies
  • Writing IRB Approval Forms
  • Conducting literature reviews
  • Survey creation (question writing, pulling measures)
  • Data collection (interviews, observation, survey administration)
  • Data management (data entry, data cleaning)
  • Data analysis (statistical analysis, qualitative coding)
  • Sharing results through written reports, presentations, and other relevant mediums
  • Participate as a core member of the marine science team to help shape the agendas for philanthropy, program evaluation, and externally generalizable research and sharing
  • Work collaboratively across teams using clear communication and organization skills to help manage the marine science team and other teams’ workloads
  • Lead and provide collaborative support on all stages of the marine science research process, including:
  • Lead and provide collaborative support on all stages of the marine science program evaluation process from planning through implementation and sharing out results
  • Support colleagues in developing their own skills for conducting research
